Havok: Being and nothingness

Are you ready for an uninspired review? One where I will not crack any supposed-to-be-funny jokes about penises and/or vaginas? One where I will just be to-the-point with everything? Don’t let the door hit you in your Global Domination loving arse on your way out, cunt, coz here goes:

PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, PENIS, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA, VAGINA!!! LOLZZZ, ROFFLA WAFFLES RAZZLE DAZZLE!!!

I’m too fucken old for this shit.

Havok is a band from Sweden. They love to use an extremely irritating kicksound (the rest of the drums are actually not much better) while letting Morbid Angel and the majority of the US death metal scene inspire them. Half technical brutality that comes in a nice looking package that promises quality. And sure, despite the quite thin production Havok actually deliver their death metal without many flaws, though such are present here and there. Have in mind, this is the debut album after a bunch of demos so I see nothing but improvement when these guys continue their path down Death Metal Lane.

Havok’s not exactly blowing me off my chair at this point but they have their moments when they really show that they might be on to something noteworthy eventually. I prefer the times when they concentrate on not trying to be technical and instead focus on getting some groove into the mix. But no, Havok’s nothing like all those idiotically technical bands (most of them are from the States) you all know I piss on – there’s less madness to the material of these guys, which is nothing but a good thing. It’s nice when they incorporate some unexpected slower, melodic passages (listen to some of the stuff in “The monsoon” for example). That gives the listener time to breathe and be able to bare with the rest of the onslaught.

So, Havok’s showing a lot of potential. Let’s hope they take good care of it. Still guys, when the time comes for album 2, make sure someone gets those kicks right soundwise, ok?

7 out of fucken 10.
